Frame to Frame

¤ Prabhat's first talkie film 'Ayodhya Ka Raja' released in Hindi & Marathi. Due to the non-availability of Alam Ara's print this film is now presented as the first available talkie film.

¤ For the first time music is used in the place of dialogues in New Theaters' Chandidas. Devki Bose directed the film.

¤ First Gujrati talkie film 'Narsi Mehta' got released.

¤ The Motion Pictures of India came into existance. From 1951, it changed its name to Film Federation of India.

¤ 'Indrasabha' directed by J J Madan, got released. The film holds the record of having maximum no. of songs till date. It had 71 songs with almost every character bursting into a song.

Dinshaw Bilimoria
The famous actor-director Dinshaw Bilimoria was born in 1904, in Kirkee. He is considered to be the most heavily paid silent star of the Indian cinema. He worked with Imperial Co. He formed the celebrated lead couple with Sulochana. His first two films with Sulochana: 'Wildcat of Bombay' and 'Anarkali', were massive hits.Several of his silent films were remade as sound films, notably Indira MA and Anarkali.

Dinshaw Billimoria

Govind Rao Tembe
Tembe was a musician, actor, playwright, theatrical personality and complusive theorist. He composed the music for Painter's films and some early Prabhat movies. He was born in Kolhapur in 1881. He was highly influnced by Ustad Alladiya Khan and Ramkrishna Vaze. He joned Prabhat film co. and was responsible for some of the first hit singles of Marathi films, e.g. 'Bala Ka Jhop Yeyina..' in Ayodhyacha Raja.
