This only son of Master Dinanath Mangeshkar, and the younger brother of his four singing sisters, Hridayanath Mangeshkar has helped put an enormous amount of music in Indian films. Hridayanth did a lot of work outside Hindi films, mostly for Marathi cinema and other non film albums. He started his career as a music composer with 1969 Prarthana. Some of his finest compostions include: 'Yaara Seeli Seeli Birha Ki Raat...' (Lekin), 'Jhoothe Naina Bole...' (Lekin), 'Kesariya Balma...' (Lekin), 'Surmayi Shaam Is Tarah Aaye...' (Lekin), 'Zindagi Aa Raha Hoon Main...' (Mashal), 'Ek Haseen Nigaah ka Dil Pe Saaya Hai...' (Maya Memsaab), 'Ye Aankhen Dekh Kar Ham Saari Duniya...' (Dhanwan), 'Oobi Aankhon Mein Doobi Huyi Neenda Hai...' (Chakra) and 'Tum Asha Vishwas Hamare...' (Subah).
He is a composer first and a singer later. But chronologically, his singing happened first. That was for maestro
Naushad in the 1952 Deewana, where, he sang his first song 'Ye Duniya Kaisi Hai Bhagwaan...'. Many years later all of India enjoyed the
Lata Mangeshkar and
Hemant Kumar sung Marathi koli number 'Nee Dholkara..Dariyacha Raja...', which was a super melody composed by Hridayanath himself.
He composed some very interesting tracks for non-film albums, for instance,
Lata Sings Ghalib. He put lots of vakras into his compositions for this album. Then again
Lata Mangeshkar sang for him in albums such as her recital of the Bhagwad Geeta and Dnyaneshwari. Also Lata's renderings of the Ganpathy aartis, composed by Hridayanath.
Through thisperiod, he went on to compose music in several Marathi and Hindi films, like, Akashganga, Antaricha Diva, Harishchand Taramati (new), etc., simultaneously also doing his many shows abroad, including with his sisters. Then again after many years ge brought out an album of Meera Bhajans, and Kabir and Surdas' poetry, rendered by
Lata Mangeshkar.
