The legendary poet, Shailendra, produced Teesri Kasam. It was based on Phanishwar Nath Renu's story, Mare Gaye Gulfam, the film is a subtle evocation of the platonic love between Hiraman, a bullock cart driver, played by Raj Kapoor, and a rural stage actress Hirabai, played by Waheeda Rehman.
